Baggage allowance

At Arctic Fresh Inc., we give our customers the freedom to distribute the weight of their baggage. Each passenger is allowed 40 lbs of baggage per person including one carry-on bag, one personal item and one checked baggage.

 

Franchise baggage

Oversized, heavy or extra baggage

It will be possible to reserve space for your extra baggage on the day of your flight, depending on the space and weight available on the flight in question.

Please note that extra baggage may be subject to space or weight restrictions. They will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

If you have extra baggage, we strongly advise you to call us at 1.833.989.0050 or arrive at the check-in counter as soon as it opens (3 hours prior to your flight) to validate the space and weight available on the flight.

The following fee will apply to all additional baggage or baggage exceeding the 40 lbs allowance per person: $4.75 + taxes per excess lbs.

Pets

We have a flexible approval policy. To reserve a space for your pet and validate the weight available, please contact our customer service team at 1-833-989-0050.

The following price will apply to any additional baggage (your pet and its cage) exceeding the 40 lbs allowance per person: $4.75 + taxes per excess lbs.

Regulated items

Liquids and gels

Carry-on Baggage
Transport Canada requires liquids of any form to be carried in 100 ml (3.4 oz) maximum capacity containers. Transport Canada requires that every container be placed in a single clear, resealable plastic bag. This bag cannot exceed a capacity of 1 L (33.8 oz) and only one such bag is allowed in the cabin, per traveler. Certain exemptions are made for liquids needed during the course of the flight, such as : baby milk and food, medications and special dietary items, and items purchased at the duty free shop.

Containers that are larger than 100 ml must be in the checked baggage.

Aerosols

Aerosols including spray paint, air freshener, antistatic spray, and cooking spray are not allowed in checked baggage or carry-on. Some toiletry aerosols like hairspray may be permitted.

 

Powders

Powdered substances (ex. : baby powder, body powder, baking powder, baking soda, protein, detergent) exceeding 350 ml (12 oz) must be stored in your checked baggage.

Dry ice

Dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) used to pack perishables can only be transported in carry-on baggage. It must not exceed 2.5 kg (5 lbs) per traveler. This packaging is permitted under the Dangerous Goods Regulations.

Arctic Fresh Inc. requires that every traveler carrying dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) not only transport it as carry-on baggage, but also declare it during the check-in process.

Fresh or frozen seafood

Fresh or frozen seafood can only be transported in a carry-on baggage. Arctic Fresh Inc. requires these items to be securely packed in the baggage, and the baggage must not contain crushed ice.

Please note that seafood items may be subjected to quarantine regulations in the destination country.

Alcoholic beverages

No drugs or alcohol will be accepted onboard. In the case of medication, a verification could be done.

In case of doubt, Arctic Fresh Inc. reserves the right to search and refuse a passenger and/or their baggage. In the event that a baggage is refused, it must remain at the departure airport.

Drones

Arctic Fresh Inc. will accept drones in carry-on baggage if said drone remains completely turned off at all times. The drone must meet the requirements mentioned in the Batteries section (see above).

Oxygen / Compressed Gas / Cylinders / Tanks

Arctic Fresh Inc. will not accept the following items (in either carry-on or checked baggage) :

  • Carbon dioxide (CO2) or nitrogen pressurized cylinders
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Propane cylinders
  • Personal oxygen cylinders and oxygen generators
  • Canned oxygen
  • Personal medical oxygen devices that use liquid oxygen

Travelers may carry their personal oxygen concentrator on board, if approved.

Insecticides / Insect repellent

Carry-on Baggage
Insect repellents are acceptable as a carry-on, if they are non-toxic and non-flammable, and in a container with a capacity under 100 ml (3.4 oz).

Checked Baggage
Insect repellents and insecticides are allowed in your checked baggage, as long as they are not labelled as hazardous material (HAZMAT).

Smoking materials and cannabis

Lighters
Travelers are allowed to bring one (1) lighter as a carry-on (that will be stored in the clear, resealable plastic bag with the other liquids).

Matches
Travelers are allowed to bring one (1) book of matches on their person, or in their carry-on baggage.

Battery-Powered Portable Electronic Smoking Devices
Battery-powered portable electronic smoking devices are not permitted in checked baggage. These devices shall not be transported in carry-on baggage, nor be carried in the cabin, except if:

  • The device is for personal use.
  • The spare batteries are individually protected in their original packaging, or by insulating their terminals.

For each battery, the following criteria must be met:

  • Lithium metal batteries: Maximum lithium content of 2 g (0.07 oz)
  • Lithium-ion batteries: Maximum Watt-hour rating of 100 Wh
  • Both types of batteries must meet the requirements of each test in the UN Manual of Test and Criteria, Part III sub-section 38.3.

Travelers are required to notify Arctic Fresh Inc. check-in counter agent about their battery-powered portable electronic smoking devices so that we can place a notice to classify the devices as dangerous goods.

Cannabis
Please note that according to Transport Canada, you are not allowed to carry cannabis in, or out of Canada, even with a medical license that allows you to possess or produce cannabis.

Items prohibited in checked or carry-on baggage

The following items must not be carried on board the aircraft (neither as checked or carry-on baggage):

  • Undeclared ammunition*
  • Deadly weapons*
  • Floral and nursery stock (i.e. flowers, fruit and vegetable plants)
  • Cut flowers and foliage (i.e. floral displays)
  • Fresh or frozen foodstuffs (i.e. fruits, vegetables, meats, poultry, bakery products, and dairy products)
  • Seafood**

*Please note that, according to airport security regulations, all firearms and ammunition have to be declared to, and accepted by the airport authority. Certain weapons may be accepted as checked baggage in accordance with Arctic Fresh Inc. security regulations. These items include, but are not limited to antique firearms, swords and knives.

**Although it is considered a perishable item, seafood is not permitted in checked baggage due to the possibility of it spilling or leaking, which can cause significant corrosion damage to the aircraft’s structure. Therefore, seafood is only permitted to be transported in carry-on baggage.
